RECENT BAKELITE FINDS

Hey there!
Do you mind if I show you my latest Bakelite jewelry finds?

Short yellow necklace was a gift from my man and the
long necklace was a gift to myself, both from Prague.
Short cost 380 CZK (= £12 / $20)
Long cost 150 CZK (= £5 / $8)

Found the yellow, orange and green bangles in Prague.
Yellow & orange cost 280 CZK each (= £9 / $14.50 each)
Green cost 180 CZK (= £6 / $9.50)

These arrived through the letterbox while we were in Prague.
They were part of a lot (of 8) I bought on Etsy, thought they
would be Bakelite judging by the shape and they were!
The seller never mentioned anything about Bakelite so I really
took a chance and I'm glad I did!
They cost 90 US cent each (= 55 pence each)

Yum yum!

If you live in the US you might think these bits are expensive but
for me, living in the country where everything is overpriced, it's
absolute bargains.

SWEET!

I have a weakness for Eastern European/Russian things
and when I found this Russian kiosk in Prague I just had
to get some sweets!
The woman in the kiosk didn’t speak a word of English
but I still managed to get what I wanted and I thanked
her properly.
I’m not going to eat any of it, it’s to keep, it’s to beautiful
to unwrap.
This bunch will end up in one of my small shadow boxes.

6 YEAR ANNIVERSARY

While me and my man were in Prague we celebrated our
6 year anniversary.
It was lovely walking around in the beautiful city looking
at all the lights and old buildings even tho it was freezing.

I got this pretty moonglow demi parure.

I also got this Bakelite necklace.
Found it at Art Deco Galerie in Prague.
Pretty decent price too I might add, 380 CZK (£12/$20)

My man got 3 vintage ties (one was pink lurex) and a
Bakelite hair dryer from me.

MERRY X-MAS!

Merry X-mas my gentile friends!

I'm back from an amazing week in Prague and trying
to catch up on some well needed rest.

Just wanted to show you one of the finds from Prague,
I got a bunch of these 1950's/1960's soft plastic snow
flakes, they are so darling and look amazing in the red
fir.

Lots of love.

SNOW!

I was happy to wake up this morning and discover
that it's been snowing during the night.
I'm less happy about being a year older today. :(

TESTING TESTING

My tube of Simichrome arrived the other day and today, as I
felt a bit bored I decided to test my bangles for Bakelite.
(No more rub test, my thumbs are SO thankful!)
I knew there wouldn't be much luck but I like my bangles just
the same and I have never paid much for any of them.

I was pleasantly surprised that this turned out to be Bakelite
because it's pretty light.

I paid 50 pence for this one.

This chunky thing was without a doubt Bakelite, I felt it as I
picked it up in the shop last week and I did the rub test but
I still wanted to be sure. It passed the test.

I paid 50 pence.

MAYBE?

I found this picture on Tumblr and maybe the designer
of my shoes got his/hers inspiration from this picture. :)
I will never find this out but it would be cool if it was.

LATEST FINDS

Hi there!
Sorry for not being so active here, I find tumblr much
easier to deal with after blogger's awful "revamp".

Anyway. I've been a sad little girl with an enormous
homesickness and lack of real friends, so guess who
was more than thrilled to go to the antique market on
Friday and then meet up with my Canadians for some
gossip and coffee that makes you feel like you're on
drugs. (I hate Starbucks!)

First I scouted the market where I got a whole bunch
of vintage stuff for £4  = 1950's thermos, 1950's men's
robe, 5 old flower pots, a teal Phoenix dish with glass
lid and some plates for my big flower pots that I need
to take in over winter.

From another seller I got a pair of Carmen Miranda-esk
earrings that I've had on my wishlist for years but never
found a pair that was in good condition or cheap, mine
cost £3 and were in very good condition.

My best finds however came from the charity shops...

Vintage gold lurex dress, £4.99.
Made in Paris and totally OTT! :D

Bakelite bangle, 50 pence.
Isn't it gorgeous?

1950's gold lurex clutch, £3.
Matches the dress!

1950's Betterware crumb brush and tray in original box,
all in unused condition, £4.
This was a gift from my man but I found it.

LAMPS

I’m a huge fan of lamp bases in teak.
Instead of these beauties standing unused in
our loft I decided it was time for a change.

Changed lamps and linen in the bedroom today.
Out with the pink, in with leopard, teak, yellow
and gold.

The one to the left I snagged yesterday in my
favorite local charity shop for £2 and the right
one I got for 30 pence two years ago.
These awesome lampshades are from IKEA
for £1.99 each.

This floor lamp was found in a dusty barn
and cost me £10.
I'm not sure about the lampshade, got a few
to chose from but I'm not in a rush for now.

STAG SET

As much as I hate to spend money on YMCA I just couldn’t
resist this set!
I already got a lot of these glasses in different sizes but a set
of 6 glasses and a decanter for £5 is nothing I leave behind.
(Made in Italy during the 1950’s)

AT THE CRYPT

Here's me dressed up as Frida Kahlo at the Día
de los Muertos celebration at The Crypt last night.
I've been waiting years for an opportunity to dress
up as Frida Kahlo or Carmen Miranda and I must
admit I was quite excited.
I have never in my life got that many compliments.
I’m glad my art idol Sue Kreitzman loved it!

PUMPKIN PIE

It ain’t pretty but it sure was good!
My man did the crust and I made the wonderful filling.

(Filling: pumpkin, eggs, brown sugar, double cream,
Swedish mulled wine, cinnamon, nutmeg, cardamon,
and fresh ginger.)

Had to represent with a Swedish moose and an over
sized squirrel. LOL!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!

NO ROOM, NO SPACE

We have officially no more room in this house for anything!
With the gruesome house prices here in the UK and a man
who doesn't want to learn Swedish and move there to make
a better life for us we have no other choice than to let go of
some stuff.
(I mean, do we really need 3 1950's/1960's cocktail bars?)

Here's two larger items I'm trying to sell at the moment...

1950's fold out sewing table with an Arrow sewing machine
Works fine and dandy!
The sewing machine is screwed on to the table and can be
folded down when it's not used. ..

Loads of space...

Bakelite pedal...

1960's teak cocktail cabinet
Well cared for...

Very chic...

Perfect for the mid century home...

I really hope these two wonderful items end up in a nice
home somewhere here in the UK.

CANDYFLOSS & SALSA

I’m not turning into a “look at my awesome nails”
kind of girl, this is just a novelty thing for me, it's
only my second and I won't pester you with tons
of posts about my future moon manicures. :)

This is from last night.
Candyfloss pink and metallic salsa.
(I hope to improve this!)

CARMEN MIRANDA'S HAT

Carmen Miranda’s fruit hat can be found on my
kitchen table. ;)

IT'S A MATCH!

You all know the saying "Good things come to those who wait"
and I believe this is true every now and then, like the other day...

3 years ago I found this laundry bin at Hitchin Antique Market
for £12 and I was one happy camper to have snagged such a
find...

The other day I came across something equally awesome...

This MATCHING ottoman!
As you can see it needs a bit of TLC and a new rim around
the lid but who cares when it's MATCHING?! :D

I found this in a real dump of a charity shop and got so excited.
I haven't even been looking around for anything with the same
pattern so it was a total surprise.
Since it does need a bit of work I didn't think the price were fair
but my man, the super haggler, said he take care of it.
He spoke to the manager and made him an offer of £10 and he
accepted because it's been there for quite a while.
So from £30 to £10, not bad! :D

I wonder what else is out there that's matching...

MOON MANICURE

I made my first moon manicure the other day and I
must say I'm pleased with the result.
I don't wear nail polish all the time since I glue a lot
but I'm having a little craft break right now and so I
thought I do something different.
I like this color combination, mint and bottle green.
I should get a bottle of base coat because I have a
feeling this whole thing will chip off.
