A GOOD CLEAN
Got a stack of Bakelite bangles the other day and some was in
desperate need of some TLC.
In this stack there’s a marbled butterscotch/banana bangle that
got some ugly scratches, so I decided to rub it over with a fine
sand paper to get rid of them or at least make it look a little bit
better.
As I’m sanding I discover that this bangle isn’t supposed to be
butterscotch/banana, it turned out it’s slightly off white with pale
brown marbling.
At first I think “Damn, I ruined it!” but after some quick research
I feel okay again, it just had the thickest patina ever.
Here you can see the work in progress…
I love how it turned out and I like that I got such a nice shine to
it by hand and not using a buffer machine.

THEDAILYBAKE AS THEY CALL IT
I don't have instagram, I have a phone that's 5 years
old and the only one that calls me on it is my man.
I tried getting it on my computer but it only caused a
lot of problems.
I blog instead until someone donates their old iphone.
So here's my #thedailybake

LOW KEY BIRTHDAY
I've had a really good birthday today!
Even tho the plans we made went tits up because my man injured
one of his toes and got gout in the one next to it and he can't walk,
I must say it's been a very pleasant one.
We're going to Prague soon so we'll celebrate properly there.
I woke up early because I was very uncomfortable, went down to
the kitchen and did some housework and prepared some food for
our dinner. My man woke up and we had coffee and he gave me
the sweetest card with the most romantic content ever.
Afterwards I crawled back into bed to check some things on my
computer and in comes my man with a huge package, turns out it
is a case willed with small gifts and if you scroll down you'll see
what I got.
Today's been low key but it was nice to just relax.
I made Swedish style (vegetarian) x-mas food for dinner, tons of
lit candles and Dean Martin playing in the background, I felt like
I just turned 60! LOL!
Skipped the cake today, I made my Caribbean toffee instead.
1940's telephone cord clutch.
Amazing Bakelite bangle.
1950's confetti Lucite sweater guard.
1950's Coro Confetti Lucite necklace.
1950's doorknocker earrings.
1950's rhinestone earrings.

FINDS OF THE DAY
Went into town to get some toiletries and to scout the charity shops.
Lately I’ve found nothing and there wasn’t much to speak about today.
I got myself a pair of fruity earrings and a broken Bakelite brooch for
the total of £1.75. (approx $2.80)
I’m going to remove the bits that’s left of the pin and glue a bail on the
back and use it as a pendant.
My favorite bargain of the day is this cute lunchbox that I snagged in
one of this towns many bargain shops for £1.99! (approx $3.20)
Perfect for small outings and road trips. :)

WOFF!
These Bakelite Scottie dogs have been waiting quite a while
to be turned into something useful and yesterday I finally got
around to do so.
I made a cardigan clip/sweater guard out of bits I had in my
craft boxes. I might find more suitable stuff in the future but I
think this will do for now. Perfect autumn colors.

UNNECESSARY PRETTY THINGS
As the weeks go by there's a lot of self loathing and self pity
along the way. It's no fun getting larger when you're used to
a 24 inch waist. So I've turned into retail therapy because it
works, at least for a little while and I don't spend a massive
amount since I love a good bargain.
Here's two not so necessary but oh so pretty things I've got
recently.
1930's Bakelite dress clip.
1950's glitter Lucite yo-yo.
What kind of unnecessary things have you purchased lately?

NAME DAY GIFT TO MYSELF
I treated myself to some Bakelite spacers, I thought they
were going to arrive later, like on my actual name day but
the seller was quick to dispatch so they arrived two days
earlier. Doesn't matter to me as long as they arrive safely.
There are so stunning when holding them up to the light...
Got them for the not so tiny sum of £18.50 (approx. $29).
I also got a package from my friend Mikael in Sweden
who pinstriped me this bangle. Cool, huh?
More of Mikael's work here and here.

NEW ADDITION TO THE BANGLE FAMILY
I picked these up today after my hospital appointment.
The red one is Bakelite and the teal one is Lucite.
The Bakelite bangle were really grubby so I cleaned it with
a toothbrush and hot water, after I dried it properly I sanded
it with a very fine sandpaper and then buffered it up.
I do need to get a new buffer because the surface should be
even smoother than it is now but mine were well used.
In the auction the seller said it had some dark mottled areas
but that turned out to be old dirt, after my deep cleanse I saw
a whole new bangle, it now shows the marbled pattern.
The sum? £5 each! (approx. $7.85 each)

YESTERDAY'S FINDS
Hi there!
It's been a while!
I've been in Sweden and Holland for almost a month.
I dread to make a post about my finds over there but
I will however post about yesterdays finds from a local
car boot sale.
Straw bag, 20 pence. (approx. $0.30)
This bag need a bit of TLC, I need to glue the straw on the handle
into place and the grapes are scruffy, I might seal them with some
decoupage glue.
I've been pining over this bag for a while and for 20 pence I don't
mind that it's not in mint condition.
Bakelite bangle, 35 pence (approx. $0.55)
I'm not in a rush to make my collection bigger and I'm not spending
a lot of money on Bakelite so when I find them cheap it's even more
of a thrill.
Lot of Bakelite and celluloid buttons and buckles, £5.80.
(approx. $9)
The shapes and designs are amazing.
I want to make OTT rings out of the huge black buttons.
1940's/1950's hair remover, 20 pence. (approx. $0.30)
I'm NOT going to use this but the package is just so darling.
Faux fur jacket, £3. (approx. $4.70)
This jacket is absolutely stunning in real life.
As much as I hate cold weather I do look forward to be stylish
this autumn and winter.
1950's jewelry, £1.50 for the lot. (approx. $2.35)
I just couldn't resist that little teak fish!

BACK HOME!
Hi there!
I've been away for a while.
Went to Screamin' Festival in Spain.
I had a good time until I got food poisoning during the
festival Saturday's evening event where I passed out
because of horrible stomach pains and puked all over
myself, ended up in an ambulance.
I felt so ashamed because people saw me do this and
might have thought I was a classless drunk twat.
(I didn't drink any alcohol at all that day.)
I missed all the bands I wanted to see that night and I
missed the last day of the festival. :(
Discovered that Rock n' Roll Holidays that we used
to go to back in the days was back after two years so
we had another half week of party.
We had a great time at the pool parties on the roof and
I rediscovered a song by Billy Fury that my dad used to
play when I was a kid that I loved.
Here's a few selfies and finds.
Had a pretty decent hair day on the festival Thursday.
Me and my man at the evening event on the festival Thursday.
Managed to get me a nice tan after the festival was over.
Me and my man at the pool party.
Found these beauties in our hidden gem in Calella.
It’s a little charity shop (goodwill) where we managed to
find some neat stuff over the years.
Got the peach 1960’s peignoir for €2 (= $2.65/£1.70) and
the black 1950’s dress for €5 (= $6.70/£4.25).
This carved Bakelite bangle arrived from Ireland while I was in Spain.
(Won this on eBay for £11.50 = approx $18.)
And these two marbled Bakelite bangles arrived from the Czech Republic.
My postman was SO NICE to hold them for me since they were too large
to deliver so they wouldn't be sent back.
(Won them on eBay, the green bangle was £12.70 = approx $20 and the
creamed corn bangle was £9.55 = approx $15.)

MY LIFE LATELY
No, I haven't forgot that I have a blog, I've just been busy.
Here's a few things that kept me busy.
I made this 1940's style lurex bikini out of an ugly tunic,
started this last year and finally got around to finish it.
Totally forgot to take a before picture.
My latest bag purchase.
Me before a gig.
Made this headpiece out of a sequin brooch that I got for
a song on Etsy.
Finally got around to turn these Bakelite clover leaves into
a pair of earrings!
Got this darling doll head in a junk shop in Prague and now
I turned him into a cute ring.
Some exotic earrings I've been working on.

LATEST BAKELITE
I adopted these last week from a local dealer.
The green was £12.50 and the butterscotch was £9.
(Approx $19 and $14.)
I couldn't really get a good picture that shows how
stunning the green bangle really is, you just have to
take my word for it.
