IRON MAN

I'm sporting an Iron Man moon manicure today. :)
(They were nicer yesterday before housework.)

The red polish is Kanebo "NC02" (it's about 6 years old!) and the
dark gold polish is 17 Fast Finish "Fury" (from Boots).

TESTING TESTING

My tube of Simichrome arrived the other day and today, as I
felt a bit bored I decided to test my bangles for Bakelite.
(No more rub test, my thumbs are SO thankful!)
I knew there wouldn't be much luck but I like my bangles just
the same and I have never paid much for any of them.

I was pleasantly surprised that this turned out to be Bakelite
because it's pretty light.

I paid 50 pence for this one.

This chunky thing was without a doubt Bakelite, I felt it as I
picked it up in the shop last week and I did the rub test but
I still wanted to be sure. It passed the test.

I paid 50 pence.

MAYBE?

I found this picture on Tumblr and maybe the designer
of my shoes got his/hers inspiration from this picture. :)
I will never find this out but it would be cool if it was.

LATEST FINDS

Hi there!
Sorry for not being so active here, I find tumblr much
easier to deal with after blogger's awful "revamp".

Anyway. I've been a sad little girl with an enormous
homesickness and lack of real friends, so guess who
was more than thrilled to go to the antique market on
Friday and then meet up with my Canadians for some
gossip and coffee that makes you feel like you're on
drugs. (I hate Starbucks!)

First I scouted the market where I got a whole bunch
of vintage stuff for £4  = 1950's thermos, 1950's men's
robe, 5 old flower pots, a teal Phoenix dish with glass
lid and some plates for my big flower pots that I need
to take in over winter.

From another seller I got a pair of Carmen Miranda-esk
earrings that I've had on my wishlist for years but never
found a pair that was in good condition or cheap, mine
cost £3 and were in very good condition.

My best finds however came from the charity shops...

Vintage gold lurex dress, £4.99.
Made in Paris and totally OTT! :D

Bakelite bangle, 50 pence.
Isn't it gorgeous?

1950's gold lurex clutch, £3.
Matches the dress!

1950's Betterware crumb brush and tray in original box,
all in unused condition, £4.
This was a gift from my man but I found it.

LAMPS

I’m a huge fan of lamp bases in teak.
Instead of these beauties standing unused in
our loft I decided it was time for a change.

Changed lamps and linen in the bedroom today.
Out with the pink, in with leopard, teak, yellow
and gold.

The one to the left I snagged yesterday in my
favorite local charity shop for £2 and the right
one I got for 30 pence two years ago.
These awesome lampshades are from IKEA
for £1.99 each.

This floor lamp was found in a dusty barn
and cost me £10.
I'm not sure about the lampshade, got a few
to chose from but I'm not in a rush for now.

STAG SET

As much as I hate to spend money on YMCA I just couldn’t
resist this set!
I already got a lot of these glasses in different sizes but a set
of 6 glasses and a decanter for £5 is nothing I leave behind.
(Made in Italy during the 1950’s)

AT THE CRYPT

Here's me dressed up as Frida Kahlo at the Día
de los Muertos celebration at The Crypt last night.
I've been waiting years for an opportunity to dress
up as Frida Kahlo or Carmen Miranda and I must
admit I was quite excited.
I have never in my life got that many compliments.
I’m glad my art idol Sue Kreitzman loved it!

Me and the AMAZING Sue Kreitzman.
