CRAVINGS

Looks like I can't walk past a charity shop without
dropping in for a quick browse.
The other day I had such bad cravings for a good
rummage it was actually ridiculous.

Earlier today I walked into town to post a package
and afterwards I was going swimming. On my way
to the swimming centre I happened to pass by my
new favorite charity shop and I just couldn't resist
the urge to scout. Lucky I didn't.
Found myself a top that makes me crave sun ripe
oranges and a bowl and jug with a nice mid-century
pattern.

I was thinking about the amount of second hand
shopping I do every month and how little it actually
cost over here in the UK compared to Scandinavia.
If I still lived in Sweden and did the same shopping
I would be poor by now.
When the new year comes I will write down every
penny I spend in charity shops and at car boot sales
and see how much I end up spending in a year.
I won't count Etsy and Ebay because everyone can
scout and buy online and it's not the same thing.
Or maybe I should make a separate list for online
finds...

Miss Selfridge top, £1.70 (18,50 Kr, $2.70, €2)
This top makes me long for summer. I can see myself in a
pair of red shorts,
yellow tank top and this over it and also
some exotic hair
flowers in my hair.

1960's Jug and bowl, 80 pence. (8.70 Kr, $1.25, €0.95)
Don't know If this set is a keeper yet, I just loved the design
and for 80 pence I can afford to have a think
about it.

The set comes from Ridgway Pottery and it's called Ondine.
I wouldn't say no the the entire set, check it out!

DOMESTIC DAY

Today has been one of those domestic days.
Not very exciting but very necessary.
I've been cleaning the house, done 3 loads of
laundry and a whole lot of washing up.
While washing up I accidentally managed to
shove a fork into my hand, pretty darn deep
too, I was bleeding like a little pig. :))

I also been making plum & ginger sauce, carrot
juice and tomato celery juice, it was all for my
man, he likes veg juice and my sauces, I don't.
Frugal as I am I saved the "carrot junk" after
juicing, I put it in plastic bags and store it in the
freezer until I need it, my thought is to use it in
carrot cake or as a filler in lasagna.
I also saved the "tomato junk", it's perfect to
put in stews, Italian dishes, etc. it's also much
tastier than canned tomatoes if you ask me.

I think I'll take the rest of the day off to watch
HBO's Boardwalk Empire and maybe make a
few hair flowers.

Started my day with a very yummy breakfast.
Fruit salad with honey melon, mango, pomegranate,
raspberries, coconut chunks and Macadamia nuts.

For my lovely man - juice.
I made 3 liter tomato celery juice and 2 liter carrot
juice.

Finished preparing flowers for hats and hair flowers.

Oh yeah, the Hanukkah charity shopping has going
on all week, here's two items I picked up yesterday.

Vintage jacket, £3.
Can you believe it?! Another stage jacket for my
man for only £3, amazing!

Dress, £3.
I've been looking for another house dress, something
cheap, one that I don't have to be careful with, this one
was perfect.
I noticed earlier that Hallonsemla got the same dress.

Close up on the pattern.

LOOK WHAT I GOT!

Looks like you don't have to wait until tomorrow to
have a peek at what I got on my birthday yesterday.
I also got some money and some b-day cards and a
lot of nice wished on Facebook and here.
Thank you all so much!

Brooch, earrings and a ring from Clare.
All these pretty things and much, much more are available
in her shop at fantastic prices! Perfect stocking fillers!

A 1950's string holder from mother in law.
You put a roll of string in the back of the cats head and
hang it on the wall.

Vintage hat from mother in law.

Jayne Mansfield hot water bottle from the 1950's
from my wonderful man and a 1950's boudoir lamp
from mother in law.
J.M. is my favorite blonde of all times and I've been wanting
this bottle for a looong time.

Now I'm off to the day SPA! Ta-ta!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!

I'm now 31.
So far I've had a wonderful day, very low key but after
last years fiasco I didn't want a party, just close family,
a meal out and vintage shopping.
I got all that and now I'm home to have a slice of cake
(m-i-l insisted) and to change outfit for tonight's event,
London Lowbrow & Kustom Ko-op's X-mas party.
The thing I'm most excited about tonight is to see my
lovely friend Clare again! She's a doll and a half.

Tomorrow my man and I are going to a SPA so I will
blog about my birthday presents on Tuesday.

See ya! <3

HANUKKAH GELT

Oy vey, what a weekend!
We finally spent some well needed time to relax
together.
Last night we went a bit Swedish, we had Glögg
and pepparkakor with mature cheddar cheese.
(We actually bought that Glögg last December at
IKEA but there was no time to enjoy it then, so
we made up for it last night.)
Since we're both Jewish we celebrate Hanukkah,
in our own way, I guess we will become a bit more
traditional when we have kids.
One thing that is traditional to do during Hanukkah
is to give money to charity.
This year we started a new Hanukkah tradition,
we went charity shopping (scouting for some cool
finds in our local charity shops).
That way we're giving money to charity and also
shopping for "Hanukkah gelt" (the Jewish version
of X-mas gifts if you like) and doing something we
both enjoy at the same time. :D
Another traditional thing is to eat Sufganiyah.
My mother in law promised me to bring one over
for me on my birthday tomorrow.
It will be a substitute for an actual birthday cake.

OK, here's the Hanukkah gelt this year:

Vintage Guayabera, £2.
I got this beautiful vintage Guayabera for my lovely man.
The price was unbeatable, almost too good to be true.

Close up on the beautiful embroidery.

Close up on the tag.

Vintage Suit jacket, £3.
I love this jacket I got for my man!
He looks so handsome in it, like
my favorite character from
The Sopranos,
Silvio Dante.

Vintage glasses case, 60 pence.
Bamboo bangle, 10 pence.
I got the case for my man to store his 1960's sunglasses in.
He got me the bangle.

Pencil skirt, £2.
Just what I needed! I already got 3 red pencil skirts but not
in the perfect red shade.
This one is traffic light red, my favorite.
And it goes below the knees, which I prefer.

THE BAG OF BAGS

I was very sad yesterday morning, there's some family
issues that's really bringing me down.
I went swimming to clear my head and then I had lunch.
Since I cried all morning my head was really aching so I
went for a walk with the hope that some fresh air would
do the trick. It didn't really help but something cheered
me up a bit on my way home.
Yes, I stopped by a charity shop. :))

Here's some of the things I got:

Vintage X-mas decoration, 60 pence.

Elastic cinch belt, £1.

Unused night gown, £1.

I believe I found the bag of bags.
(I won't tell how much it cost because I don't know if I'm
keeping it for myself, selling it or giving it away.)
The person who designed this handbag must have been a
genius! Look at this!

Hm, nice vintage moc croc clutch bag in mint condition...

Wait a minute! It could also serve as a shoulder handbag!
And there's a small compartment with a zip...

Hold on, there's something underneath...

Another compartment!

And in the main compartment there's a detachable coin purse.

There was also a separate wallet for travellers checks and
such in the main compartment.

Inside of the wallet.

HAPPY HANUKKAH!

Happy Hanukkah!
I don't have time for a long post tonight, I'm currently in my
curlers, going into The Pigalle Club at Piccadilly Circus to see
the burlesque group The Satin Dollz from Hollywood preform
with The Jive Aces.
So long!
