The summer is here before we know it and I've started to stock up on cute tops again, preferably at a good price. As usual I go for the classic pinup look because it's suits me to a tea. I also make my own tops because it's fun and I love the compliments and the feeling of accomplishment.
I got these tow tops last week: Antique market, £1.
My cravings for Swedish goodies has been a bitch lately so my lovely man took me into central London to the shop Totally Swedish this afternoon where I spent £20 on Salmiak and some other stuff I've been longing for for a while.
Busy afternoon! We decide this morning to go to Hitchin to check out the antique market and also visit my friend Hannah's vintage shop, Jolly Brown. I found a pair of silver mules for only £5, I couldn't resist!
We got a 1950's coat hanger in good condition at the antique market for only £17!!!
I've got myself a new suitcase! It's been on my wish list for some time and I grabbed it the very second I saw it! I got it for £28, a bargain! It's 28 inch and perfect for a longer vacation. I own a beige mock crock trolley set from Catherine Manuell but it's a bit too small for a two week vacation, it's more suited if I go away for a weekend and it cost around $350 and it's already damaged(!) so I don't recommend spending that sort of money on her cases to be honest.
I've must have been a really good girl the last 24 hours because I've been showered with gifts like never before! So this must be what Christmas feels like? *smirk*
From my man and mother in law: A pinup book, chili nuts and coconut macaroons from one of the kosher bakeries in Golders Green.
From lovely Heather: Tons of Big Red gum, a cute little box of fruit gum, a lip balm that taste like peaches and a Bettie Page memo board.
From lovely Zizzi: Baby blue napkins with polka dots and baby deers, a very neat washing up brush and a magazine from the 1950's (not pictured).
From my man: A canary yellow cruiser from Kustom Cruiser! It's a used one but who cares? He found it on eBay this morning and called the guy up and asked him if he would take it off and sell it to us for £70 if we picked up today, and so we did! My old one that I got from my dad on my birthday 2004 got stolen, a guy my man used to know promised me to pimp it up but that was 15 months ago and the wanker doesn't answer his phone or reply to emails.
Beautiful day, again, so we went to a car boot sale, bad idea because it's mothers day and we're taking mother in law out for dinner in a couple of hours, she is lovely but after all a Jewish mother... The car boot sale really tired me out big time, too many idiots, without manners, running around like headless chickens in search for a bargain.
Your better half buy you organic cheese in shape of a bunny.
It's was a really beautiful day today! We went to a DIY store where we got some flowers for the big pots on the patio and we also got some paint for the part of the house that got plastered earlier this year. I also started to give the back garden a face lift.
I added a few more items on Etsy but there's more to come, much more!
This beauty arrived this morning! I'm a sucker for wicker handbags and this was like the holy grail of wicker handbags and the last one for a while. I won it on eBay a couple of night ago for £21, not really a bargain price but I like it because it's unusual. It would probably cost around £40 on a rockabilly weekender or in a vintage clothing store in London.
Won this pattern for 4 1950's sun tops last night for £1.04. I wish I won this pattern a couple of nights ago so I could make one of these tops in class tonight...
I woke up this morning with a craving to listen to a band that used to be one of my favorite bands when I was younger - The Dandy Warhols. Their songs suits my mood perfectly today since it's sunny and I feel a bit brighter.
I have had a very nice day.
I've accomplished a lot today, both in the garden and
indoors. We also had time for a break so we drove to
one of our favorite places, Bennington Village, to feed
the ducks and have a walk around the village.
This is some of the things we saw on our walk.
I really hate our bathroom. Everything else in the house is getting a makeover but the bathroom is not, unfortunately. Our dream bathroom has pink sink, toilet and tub and black tiles on the walls and floor. We're currently looking around on Freecycle for pink bath utilities, you never know...

Hi, I'm Rascal Kosher and I'm a shoe addict... You know you got a problem when you have a panic attack over your sick amount of shoes. It's just not funny. I have now decided to start selling off my huge collection of vintage and 50's style shoes, this weekend I'm gonna try to clear at least 25 pairs. They are all in the size UK3/US6/EUR36 and I gonna sell them on eBay, check back for a link in the near future.
Carmen Miranda and her collection of platform shoes a' 1944.
I couldn't imagine a morning without a cup of proper coffee, preferably strong with two sugars and a dash of whole milk. I really can't stand the instant crap! Since I'm one of those people who really get the kick, and I do mean THE kick = manic. I'm about to have a cup and then clean the house, it gets done so much faster.
My favorite coffee at the moment is Tesco's Italian.
It's really spring over here now, so nice and sunny. Crocus, Daffodils and Snowdrops everywhere. I was in a very creative mood today so I made two Tiki-style bags and even more hair flowers. I have class in 30 minutes where I'm gonna start working on a very cute thing for a bride to be.
Ha ha ha! I got this on myspace from my friend Elaine:
"Please read!!! If you are an owner of a dog that belongs to a 'dangerous breed' category and you also have a small child please take this as a warning. Don't leave your dog with the child unattended under any circumstances. Only a little moment was enough for the following to happen. See the photo attached."
It's Purim, easiest explained as the Jewish Halloween. I should have baked Hamantaschen but my man decided to go on a diet. *sigh*
I still haven't joined a synagogue since I moved here so we won't go to the reading of the Book of Esther. My man is a member of the United but they are waaay too conservative for our liking. My man hasn't set his foot there since his Bar Mitzvah. I actually feel like a bad Jewess since I haven't joined any of the Jewish communities over here, when I was living in Stockholm I went to the synagogue as often as I could, even the morning service!
I'm taking a five minute break form cleaning the house. Since I haven't been too well lately the cleaning sessions hasn't been as many as before. We're having guests staying over, The Go Getters to be more specific, so it's a very good reason to clean.
We're going to an all day rockabilly event in Birmingham tomorrow to have fun, see a bunch of great bands, jive and meet up with friends we don't see that often. We got the hotel room, entrance and drinks for free so it's silly not to go. I also have a free stall if I want to sell hair flowers and jewelery but I'm not sure if I can be bothered.
Have a nice weekend everyone!
By the way... I've made some new hair flowers. You'll find them here, here and here. (Soon available on Tradera.)
Me and my man went for a little road trip today and I spotted an antique shop as we drove through a small town. The prices wasn't very low but we managed to spot a bargain, or in this case, two.
In the bargain box we found a plate for 50 pence from the 1950's called Woolworths Homemaker, it's highly collectible and they usually go for £12 each. I have one already that is gonna be hung up on the wall in the kitchen along with this one at some point.
I found some really neat sparkling earrings from the 1950's for £3. (Gift from my man.)
I've noticed that some of you have taken or planning a trip to Paris and I totally forgot to tell you about a rather breathtaking place I went to when I was there in May 2006, Brasserie Mollard, it's a seafood restaurant entirely decorated in Art Nouveau. It opened in 1867 and I don't think it has changed much since then. I don't eat seafood (it's not kosher and I'm vegetarian) so I can't really recommend the food, the only vegetarian meal they had when I was there was onion soup which I didn't enjoy because I'm not a fan of onions. You can always pop in for a drink though. Now check out the decor!
